One of the movie's most exciting remakes

Warning: Spoilers
I got a brief glimpse of the 1929 version of The Virginian on TV one night, I've seen the 1946 version of the movie more than once, and I was very impressed with this 2000 remake of it. Bill Pullman as the Virginian (and that his only appellation) is excellent as the quiet-but-brave and firm character always shows himself to be, Harris Yulin is impressive as Judge Garth, Colin Feore does a great feat as the very mean and cold Trampas and last but not least, the beautiful Diane Lane attracts attention as the beautiful Molly Stark, the schoolmarm from Bennington, VT. James Drury could not, or maybe would not, be totally forgotten since he, the former Virginian, is in this TV flick a message carrier.

The story line does not change, The lady comes from Bennington to teach in Medicine Bow, WY, the Virginian falls in love with her, and it's love at first sight for him though not for her.

The basic story line does not change in this movie. Molly Stark does become taken with the Virginian later. Somewhere during that the mean outlaw Trampas steals horses, Judge Henry wants to learn who has done it, so the Virginian does find that out. Two men from Washington go to arrest Trampas and company, but are killed. It is then that the message carrier brings the clothes of the two dead men to the Virginian, and he (Drury) also tells the Virginian that Trampas is at the saloon in Medicine Bow. In the meantime the Virginian and Molly plan to be wed, but knowing his vengeful act is about to take place, Molly does not want to marry him. For anyone who has read the book and/or ever seen the movie, they know how the story is resolved, so I'll say no more. Still the movie is filled with beautiful green grass, a great cast, and a good storyline. Personally, i could see it many times more.
