First Man into Space (1959) is a movie I recently watched after receiving the recommendation from Bruce Reeder. The storyline involves the first man to launch out of the Earths atmosphere. Shortly after they lose contact with him something crashes to the countryside and a killing spree ensues. This movie was directed by Robert Day (The Big Game) and stars Marshall Thompson (It! The Terror from Beyond Space), Marla Landi (The Pirates of Blood River), Bill Edwards (Floods of Fear) and Robert Ayers (A Night to Remember). The storyline and how it comes full circle is really clever and better than you expect. There's some fun aspects of films of this era that always fun to catch in these movies - like the rocket ships they use with space backgrounds or some of the terminology they use like "we have an intercontinental emergency" and the reference to "meteorite dust." Some of the dialogue is also funny like the soldiers getting jealous over the girl. There's some underrated action scenes in this like when the alien kills the cops and walks into the woods and the ending sequence when they confront "the monster." Overall there's a lot to enjoy about films from this era and you'll catch yourself smiling when you see certain scenes. They just had a completely different way of doing things. I'd score this a 7/10 and recommend giving it a shot.
