Sure, the show isn't as raw as the movie. I haven't read the book so I can't judge in that area.
What the show does well is building characters. It goes deeper into the struggles of each of them. The acting is great. Standouts would be Babsi and Michi.
The cinematography is also unique and fits the theme very well. It is very harsh and has many shocking moments, making them seem almost normal towards the end.
Sometimes the show misses the tone. Also the costumes are all over the place. It is supposed to play in the 70s, yet the clothing and music doesn't align but it didn't bother me too much. It had some good songs.
The show is very graphic and directs a lot of violence and hardship towards the characters (main and side). It grapples the negative effects addiction as well, not just for the addict but for their loved ones too (which I appreciated, given that it is missing in the movie).
The viewer slowly loses hope that the group of teens is going to get clean, offering insight of the hopelessness each of them feel.
In the end, I was surprised by the series and found myself to enjoy it and be invested in the characters.
