I grew up as a teenager being allowed to read the book , cause my parents thought it would be good to know what addiction is and what it does. Reading the book , you felt horrified, understood their dispair and wished for them to get out . It broke your heart many times.
The oppositie happened with the series. To me it felt like an insult to the peolle that lived through it and didn't take addiction to heroin serious.
The scènes, where they prostitutie themselves for heroin was like watching a fashionshow, while in reality those kids we're desperate for a shot and all their mony went to heroin. It was in no way realistic and just glamourized it. Sad ,cause they could have gone in depth with a series, but it stayed on the service. Very shallow and subject just wasn't taken seriously.
