The Pilgrim (1923)

Charlie does some religious stuff
28 March 2021
One of Charlie Chaplin's lesser known features casts him as an escaped con who dresses as a minister to avoid detection, only to get confused for an actual minister! What "The Pilgrim" lacks in politically-charged material it makes up for in subtle humor. Chaplin's physical comedy is on full display here, and you're bound to love the scene with the hat. It just makes one glad that this movie and most of Chaplin's others didn't get lost, as happened to so many movies back then. Thanks to the internet, we can watch these classics whenever we want, and we can be sure that Charlie Chaplin will remain beloved for all eternity. Definitely see this one.
