Animaniacs (2020–2023)

Too "woke" for my taste
21 February 2021
I heard about this reboot and was skeptical, but everyone kept saying how amazing it was. I watched the entire season and it seemed like they only created this to push their political views.

Yes, the original was political, but not like this. I even went back to compare the two series and the original was actually about comedy. The reboot cut out all of the side characters and stories, only including Pinky and the Brain. Not all of the side characters from the original were extremely interesting but it gave it more variety.

There are a few good jokes but it seems very one sided. The Trump-Cyclops bit was hilarious but they pushed it on for too long and they were constantly reminding the viewer that TRUMP BAD. Yes, we get it, you don't have to constantly remind us that politicians in the US are messed up. Dot also constantly brings up women's rights and being the first female whatever. There was a part where she fights for women's rights, which isn't bad, but then she makes a mockery out of it by demanding rights for cartoon characters. It send the message that women's rights are a joke, which I hope the creators weren't trying to do. The only episode I really liked was a Pinky and the Brain one that didn't have any political messages and was just stupid humor. That's all I want.

The animation itself looks clean, but Pinky's redesign looks really bad. He has wrinkles under his eyes that catches my attention every time he's on screen. The Warners look good, no complaints there.

All in all, it claims to be a zany kids show, but even my 3 year old son didn't want to watch it. Hopefully the next season eases up on the political messages and tries to be more entertaining.
