A Dull, Low-Budget, Paint-by-Numbers, James Bond Spoof
10 January 2021
This film begins behind the Iron Curtain with a scientist named "Professor Jan Stefanik" (Carl Esmond) who had been working on a biological weapon which uses a bacterium that eats away at the flesh of whatever person it makes contact with. Not wanting to continue to work on such a monstrous mission he manages to defect to the West where he sets up his own laboratory in Southern California to work on an antidote. Not long afterward the secret American agency known as H.A.R.M. discovers that the Eastern Bloc has developed a weapon based on the bacterium and immediately send agent "Adam Chance" (Peter Mark Richman) to protect Professor Stefanik and find out more about the project. What he doesn't realize is that the professor has a niece by the name of "Ava Vestok" (Barbara Bouchet) living with him who works for the other side and reports everything she learns them. Now rather than reveal any more I will just say that although this film had an interesting plot the acting and direction was insufficient to really make any good use of it. It completely lacked suspense and even though Barbara Bouchet was certainly sexy enough her talents were totally wasted as well. In short, this film turned out to be a dull, low-budget, paint-by-numbers, James Bond spoof which simply didn't work out well at all and I have rated it accordingly. Below average.
