This is such a cute story! And a very different story from the usual animated fare.
It is based on a real life giraffe who was given as a gift by a pasha from Egypt to the King of France. This movie spins a fantastical tale around those events, giving it a flavor of both real life and folktales. The movie gently brushes on dark topics like slavery, death, captivity, etc. But it proceeds with the structure of a folktale that requires some suspension of disbelief. And doesn't feel overly sanitized either.
The animation is quite good for a studio that's not to big. I don't believe I've heard of them or watched anything else by them. But this is highly recommended to lovers of animation. It IS a kids movie, but it doesn't repel adults away with nonsense.
