Morocco (1930)
4/10
For Dietrich Fans Only

I am a Gary Cooper fan ( this is Film # 69 of his I have seen). And I admit to not liking Marlene Dietrich ( the only ones she ever made that I like were Desire ( also with Cooper), and Knight Without Armour). But Dietrich's Amy Jolly comes off a lot better ( because she was filmed that way by Josef Von Sternberg who directed her 7 times). Probably the highlight was the photography ( especially the final scene with Dietrich walking with Native girls following the French Foreign Legion). As usual her singing was brutal ( I do not like it and never did ( The Boys In The Backroom ruined Destry Rides Again for me)). I always turn the sound down if she sings.,As for Cooper, he was biggest problem with the film. His Legionnaire Tom Brown was a womanizing cad and the closest he came to playing a bad guy. I can say there are only two other times I considered him weak. Love In The Afternoon and Design For Living ( a Film I saw as a kid and hated and did not understand why until it was explained to me in college). There was one good acting performance and that was Adolphe Menjou who was excellent. Because of him and the photography I give Morocco 4/10 stars. It is for Dietrich fans only.
