The Big Noise (1944)
5/10
Not many laughs in this late Laurel and Hardy outing
15 September 2020
Leonard Maltin (in one of his most quotable reviews) lists "The Big Noise" as the worst Laurel and Hardy film ever made; I haven't seen nearly enough of their work myself to have an informed opinion on the matter, but I will say that I didn't find this one to be very funny. It's not a total disaster, but it too often allows its gags to play out way too long, instead of moving on to the next one; at the same time, the "story", such as it is, is rushed. Doris Merrick's beauty is a (brief) asset. ** out of 4.
