Review of Faces

The Sweeney: Faces (1975)
Season 2, Episode 2
6/10
Faces
8 August 2020
Written by Murray Smith who created Strangers and The Paradise Club.

It starts off with another thrilling opening as the police give chase to a masked gang robbing a security van.

The gang is led by an ex soldier from Manchester called Tober (Colin Welland) who have been contracted to carry out several heists over the next few days by a German terrorist group.

Carter is getting information from his snout but the secret service have an inside man and do not wish for his identity to be compromised. They are after the terrorists.

Smith very much follows the Sweeney formula but you also have a cynical view of the security services.

There are some thrilling action scenes at the beginning and the end with even Haskins getting involved in the action.

It only seemed yesterday that Colin Welland was nicking villains in Z Cars. He should had told the German that the British were coming.
