Review of PT 109

PT 109 (1963)
5/10
disappointing and overlong
8 August 2020
At 2 hours 20 minutes long, this movie just slugs along. Probably planned as propaganda for a continued JFK presidency, which was horribly and sadly cut short. Well-intentioned but the film is somewhat boring. Some much-needed editing was overlooked - maybe in an attempt to make this seem like it was an "epic" movie. Robertson is okay, but was JFK really this bland in real life ? The others actors, including Ty Hardin, Robert Culp, and Robert Blake, try to breathe some life into the script, but the words just aren't there. When it's not on a set (and it's very obvious when it is), the scenery of Little Palm Island, Florida is spectacular. The only problem is that the actors get in the way with the monotonous script.
