Terrible Depicition of a Black Family
5 July 2020
This show is terrible and poorly depicts the Black Family. In season 1 episode 1 the daughter, who is only about 7 years old, appears to be on the path of becoming an alcoholic. Basically, during their move from one community to another, the child loses her favorite doll. To overcome her pain, she pours, a red sugary drink, into four shot glasses and pretends to be intoxicated. The parents finds the behavior to be comical and encourages her not to be overly dramatic. Now, a good parent would not describe this child's behavior as being overly dramatic but would immediately reach out to a mental health provider for counseling. The parents in this show do not represent anyone that I know. To make matters worse, in episode 2 of that same season, the parents are looking forward to spending quality time away from the kids, so they send them to spend the weekend with their grandparents. Unfortunately, Junior, (who is only about 11 years old) has decided that he is too old for overnight stays. In an effort to coaxes his son into going the father tells him that their are X-rated magazines hidden in the family's encyclopedia, so of course Junior decides to go. Again, the characters in this sit-com do not represent anyone that I know. On behalf of the Black Community and Family, stop producing images that degrade our families. We are deserve to see ourselves in a positive light.
