A trashy piece of political tripe hype
4 July 2020
Director Bruce LaBruce has obviously seen his share of John Waters films and that campy/gross/mockumentry feel continues with the RR's lead female provocateur protagonist playing the Divine role. The film tries to be shocking but ends up mostly silly and titillating and occasionally charming, except, naturally, for the outré sex scenes strewn throughout. The film's a bit of a mind bender using and reusing multi-media techniques, again in a mockumentary way...sometimes preachy but often hitting its revolutionary political spoof targets head on.
