Ending ruined movie

Warning: Spoilers
To be quite honest, I was enjoying the movie til the ending. I will also preface this saying I am wimp when I comes to horror so please keep this in mind if you are the same like me or a horror veteran.

For me why I gave it three starts instead of a one is these points: 1. I did find myself caring about some of the characters. Mainly the Medical student, the med student's crush, and the guy who was researching the house. (+1 Star) 2. I did enjoy the demon's design and when it was present it was creepy. The demon was sufficiently designed and used effectively for the most part (+1 Star)

Why is loses stars for me: 1. The ending was awful and made no sense whatsoever. I can't even spoil it because only two lines explain it in the movie which even still makes no sense at all (-4 Stars) 2. Almost the entire movie was a stereotypical frat house comedy, if you can call it a comedy. (-1 Star) 3. So when I said used effectively for the most part in relation to the Demon, the kills were repetitive. The only kills the character does is dissolve their eyes or something. The two uses of it when it was good, was the little brother's dead in the closet reveal and when it had the one main character turn his head and dissolved looking at the camera. The later was pretty creepy. I also wished the Demon toyed with people a little more. (-2 Stars)

So I ranked what each bullet point by how much it took away (ex: negatives, point 1 was -4 stars worth to me). The ending wow if that better the film would have been a lot better. Nothing like sitting through an average movie to get a utterly crap ending. Which is why it took 4 stars away. Ending is what leaves the lasting impression. As the philosophy I learned with music, start and end with the best music number because a strong start hooks them and a strong ending is what they will remember. That general concept applies to movies, and the horrible ending is what I will remember.

I have the typical frat house "comedy" at losing 1 Star because as unoriginal as it is, I don't think it was an awful setting. A loud party is a movie killer's best friend. All I can really say, it kept my attention. To be fair though, there was too much "comedy" and not enough horror. I got so complacent in the "comedy" I sometimes forgot it was a horror movie and then the horror kicks in for a tease and I all of sudden remember it is supposed to be a horror movie.

I took 2 stars away from the demon's kills because with slasher/killer movies, which I probably would say this is movie is more like, the creative kills add class to the rather cliche character building. There is a demon killing people and eyes dissolving is the sign their killed, how about a little more creativity. Maybe objects flying and hitting/stabbing people, setting people on fire, possessions, and maybe massive bleeding scratches could have livened the kills up a bit (oxymoron?).

Overall the movie was decent to me until the kills got repetitive and the awful ending which needed way more explanation to make it in the vicinity of satisfying.
