Engaging, fun and LONG

Warning: Spoilers
I loved watching this series. It gives such an in depth insight into the lives of Pablo and the people around him. It's engaging from the get go and you quickly get attached to the characters and the settings. It's a long series though and sometimes can be a chore as a lot of time is spent on showing funerals, assassination planning and such which becomes repetitive. I loved the actor who portrayed Pablo, I thought he was very convincing and clearly put a lot into the role. As the series progresses you will begin to really enjoy the characters and their interactions, their rapport and how their personalities bounce of each other (for example Pedro as mellow, Pablo as middle, Marcos as extreme). I became so attached to many characters that I genuinely felt sad when they were killed or locked up (Pablo's death was very tense and quite sad when it happened). The show is similar to how we may identify soap operas as being structured; lots of talking, interactions and slow story progression. It goes in depth into how Pablo influences the entire country of Colombia, how it affected politics and how it affected the general innocent bystander which is really nice. On the other hand some of the minor characters and extras provide terrible acting at times that can be jarring and the music score is so repetitive and starts playing at random times. I feel like they only had 3 tracks they reused throughout the entire series. I think overall the series is definitely worth a shot, even if you only watch say 10 episodes as it launches quite quickly into the forming of the Medellín cartel and its activities and rise to power. I would definitely recommend the series.
