The Oscars (2020 TV Special)

how to troll mouth-breathers
9 March 2020
Warning: Spoilers
I was out the night of the Oscars, so it took me a few weeks to watch the whole thing. Leading up to the 92nd Academy Awards, the only nominated movies from all categories that I had seen were "Ad Astra", "Frozen 2", "The Irishman", "Joker", "Judy", "Marriage Story", "Once Upon a Time in Hollywood", "Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker", "Toy Story 4" and "The Two Popes". What really stuck in my mind was the montage that included footage of Greta Thunberg and a recording of Michael Moore speaking. That must've made the mouth-breathers blow their tops. In addition, Taika Waititi made history as the first indigenous person to win an Oscar, and he made sure to address indigenous issues while accepting. Renée Zellweger and Joaquin Phoenix also made sure to address issues near and dear to their hearts. Meanwhile, Hildur Guðnadóttir's win puts her one award short of EGOT status (she's missing a Tony).

But the most important thing was of course "Parasite". I understand that it addresses class issues (much like "Joker" does). It's about time that these sorts of movies start winning things. I hope to see more of this.

As for the absence of a host, it seems to be working well.

All in all, I enjoyed it.
