"Gold wins wars, not soldiers."
26 January 2020
Recovering from his wounds, Ned Stark is reinstated as the Kings' Hand and temporarily fills in for The King while the latter is off hunting. Receiving word that a knight is making life miserable for farmers, he realizes who it probably is, and has that person stripped of all titles and privileges. Meanwhile, a frustrated Tyrion demands a "trial by combat", getting agitated over his "living conditions". Viserys is likewise getting tired of inaction from Khal Drogo, and makes a stand. Robb proves himself quite capable of combat when saving the life of Bran from some forest-dwelling rogues.

All of these actors are just so damn good that they completely sell this material, especially when you have thespians like Harry Lloyd as Viserys that get the viewer all fired up about hating their character. Granted, locations such as "The Wall", and some of the characters, take a back seat this time around, but that is good as it gives more screen time to people like Robb. Adding to the entertainment value is the fact that Ned does some more reading, and comes to a realization regarding Jon Arryn.

There is some very enjoyable visceral action as blood flows freely, and individuals receive some nasty comeuppance. (Viewers will love the resolution that takes place in the last few minutes of the episode.) Moreover, the sense of humour is most welcome, as Tyrion "confesses" to a series of ridiculous-sounding crimes.

The talent in front of and behind the camera make 'Game of Thrones' a rousing brand of entertainment indeed.

Eight out of 10.
