"My Name is Nomi Gardner, and I Want my Babies!!!"
21 November 2019
Warning: Spoilers
In this cleverly plotted film, Nomi Gardner is a mystery writer who has lived the life of a recluse. Even her photograph does not appear on her most recent thriller called "Shattered." That title is an appropriate one for what happens to Nomi in an extreme case of identity theft: she is on the run to recover her life and be reunited with her two babies.

Nomi's husband Mark and the nanny named Greta March have planned an elaborate charade to switch Nomi's identity with Greta's. Unknown to Nomi, Mark has discovered that Nomi is to receive a $5 million inheritance, and he ingeniously turns the tables on his wife while working in cahoots with Greta.

The dastardly plan of Mark and Greta includes murder. But the quick-thinking Nomi uses her acumen from writing the mysteries in order to survive. Indeed, she is in a race for her life as she tries to evade the hired thug retained by Mark while concurrently attempting to prove that she is the real Nomi Gardner.

My favorite character in the film is Oscar, a hotel employee who believes Nomi's story and becomes her aide in recovering her identity. An outrageous scene plays out in a state-run psychiatric institution where Nomi has been placed and is about to receive shock treatment for being delusional and for stabbing with a pen the creepy shrink who has been assigned to her case. Oscar disguises himself as an orderly to assist her escape from the nut house.

The filmmakers keep the tone light, and, despite the potential endangerment to the two little children, the character of the real Greta March is portrayed as a loving surrogate parent. Still, the film belongs to Nomi, who carries the weight of the main theme on her broad shoulders: there is nothing that can stop a mother's desire to be reunited with her beloved babies.
