The Big Store (1941)

want some more

Singer Tommy Rogers inherits half interest in The Phelps Department Store. He intends to sell his share to build a new conservatory for the children. Store manager Grover has to kill him before he sells which would force Grover to open up the books. The other half is owned by his aunt Martha Phelps and Grover intends to marry her to take over the whole store. After an attempt on Tommy, Martha hires inept private eye Wolf J. Flywheel (Groucho Marx) to protect him. Wacky (Harpo Marx) is his silent assistant. Ravelli (Chico Marx) is Tommy's friend from the conservatory.

The missing kids section borders on being racist. Honestly, I don't understand Groucho's jokes half the time. Nevertheless, I do love the Marx brothers. There's nobody quite like Harpo and cutting the dress is hilarious. There are lots great gags. It also has the song and dance which is fun when it gets big. Otherwise, I don't actually like the old fashion crooning. The final chase in the store is great fun with some memorable bits. There is some fun to be had. It just needs more Marx gags.
