All over the place

Warning: Spoilers
HOLLYWOOD VICE SQUAD is one of those '80s thrillers exploring the seedy world of vice and prostitution. What's unusual here is the tone, which is all over the place, veering wildly between sleazy drama, tension and random comedy sequences. Evan C. Kim's character in particular just seems to be shoehorned into the narrative for some light relief. The film is quite odd in terms of structure, cutting between different sub-plots, some of which are more substantial than others. Carrie Fisher's crusading rookie is probably the most interesting character, while veteran actors Ronny Cox and Frank Gorshin add a little gravitas.
