My family and I thoroughly enjoyed this well-acted family drama because it can lead to important discussions about gay & heterosexual marriages; closed vs. open adoption; the ruthlessness of political campaigns; and one incident of a police shooting of an unarmed citizen; racism; family loyalty; and the devastation of grief that comes from losing a spouse, a parent, and a friend.
I think some of the comments here might be a reflection of personal ideologies and politics and do not accurately reflect this show as entertainment. This is not an "anti-cop" story, and it is not a simple binary of good vs. evil. It is so much more than that because the character's lives, secrets, and motivations are as complex as we are.
There are so many shows on these days that are not worth wasting my time on, and this one is worth watching.
