THE SHADOW OF THE EAGLE is an engaging movie serial about a mystery master villain known only as the Eagle who uses sky writing to threaten his enemies. It's up to youthfu square-jawed hero John Wayne to ceaselessly pursue this mastermind, in a serial that involves all of the usual kinds of derring-do, near misses and other assorted mayhem. It's one of those productions where one step forward always results in two steps back and the bad guy is supernaturally one step ahead at every time. Thoroughly fun, in other words.
