Not Only But Always (2004 TV Movie)
8/10
Excellent depiction of a bygone comedy age.

A very touching and affectionate, warts and all, biopic of Peter Cook and Dudley Moore. Uncanny depictions by the two leads, and excellent support by a cast depicting various wives, lovers, friends and rivals. Some are quibbling with "facts" - well, I hate to break it to you, but Pete and Dud never watched and did a commentary on their own lives. This is a fantastical, stylised movie, which gives us the FEEL of the era and the lives of Cook and Moore - it's not a documentary. There are some very funny lines (though I doubt that Cook was constantly "on") and the various time periods are wonderfully evoked. The scene with a tearful Dud playing the piano with a choir for "Goodbye" is heartbreaking - just one of the many touching scenes in this movie.
