Burt Lancaster, the finest actor of all time and he never, ever turned in a poor performance. This is an older time Western, over ten years before his classics, such as 'Ulzana's Raid', 'Lawman' etc. but he's always had that brooding, incredible way. The co-stars all fine, including Audrey Hepburn. 'The Unforgiven' has to be one of the very first Westerns to deal with racial hatred.
