Review of Demon Hunter

Demon Hunter (2005)
5/10
Lofty In Concept, But Pretentious and Falling Short
18 January 2019
23 November 2010. While the photography was quality level and the initial conceptualization behind the script was admirable, the actual dialogue and directorial presentation fall quite short. Comparisons with CONSTANTINE (2005) are also off based even though both movies were released the same year and dealt with demons, angels and such, CONSTANTINE maintained its rich and consistent characterization and a rather more convoluted and deeper plot. Instead DEMON HUNTER came off more pretentious in its attempt at both philosophical articulation and descended to a more predictable and standard dialogue that didn't seem to resonate with authentic power. DEMON HUNTER failed to consistent focus on the strengths of the script with the moral dilemma at the end substantially weakened where even FRIGHT NIGHT (1985) was able to effectively capture the insidious seductive power of the devil where DEMON HUNTER more or less glossed over the opportunity. DEMON HUNTER with its relatively straight forward script with rather consistent editing, a basic storyline couldn't be considered a bad movie, it just wasn't a great movie. The supposedly shocking twist at the end only seemed to betray the real strengths of the movie instead of add to it.
