Review of 6 Guns

6 Guns (2010 Video)
2/10
Woefully weak western
18 August 2018
Normally I love westerns, so when I came across this particular offering of the genre on Netflix, I was eager to watch it. However, in the first few seconds of the movie, it was revealed that this particular western was made by the B movie studio The Asylum, who are notorious for making really cheap and really stupid movies. But I decided to stick it out, though to be quite honest, I wish I hadn't. I will admit the production values are a notch better than most other Asylum movies, and the movie is a bit less stupid. But what a long and painful slog the movie is all the same. The problem isn't that the core store is overly familiar - any plot can be made to be engaging with the right treatment - but that its execution is painful. The movie is unbelievably slow, with a great amount of padding, and scenes go by at a snail's pace. The characters are either cliched or poorly developed. (The bad guys only have two scenes in the first half of the movie!) And there is not only very little action, what action there is happens to be really sluggish and not the least bit exciting. A better western with the same basic premise is the 1971 movie "Hannie Caulder" - watch that instead.
