Legend of the Werewolf was a fine obscure horror movie
9 July 2018
Continuing to review werewolf movies in chronological order, we're at 1975 with Legend of the Werewolf. Like a previous wolf film-The Curse of the Werewolf-I reviewed, it has elements of the book "The Werewolf of Paris". In fact, the person who wrote the screenplay for this and TCOTW was Anthony Hinds. The director was Freddie Francis who previously helmed Dr. Terror's House of Horrors which had a werewolf story among other short ones in that one. Also, Peter Cushing was the star of that one and he's also the star of this one as the police scientist trying to solve the murders that happen in this one. The one who becomes the werewolf is played by one David Rintoul. I'll just now say this was quite an exciting thriller with some nice humorous touches like when Cushing tells a professional photographer to take pics of some dead bodies! So on that note, I highly recommend Legend of the Werewolf. P.S. I also liked Ron Moody-who I knew previously as Fagan in Oliver! and as a lead in Mel Brooks' The Twelve Chairs-as a zookeeper. Oh, and awesome POV shots from the wolf's view in infra-red lighting.
