Amy Schumer Shines In This Lighthearted Comedy!
26 April 2018
Warning: Spoilers
Amy Schumer is back in fine form with 'I Feel Pretty'. This appearance based comedy about a under-confident woman, is told with simplicity & humor. Though it never soars (even though it could've), it still isn't nearly half as bad as the critics are calling it. Its a cute film, where the lightheartedness wins you over.

'I Feel Pretty' Synopsis: A woman struggling with insecurity wakes from a fall believing she is the most beautiful and capable woman on the planet. Her new confidence empowers her to live fearlessly, but what happens when she realizes her appearance never changed?

'I Feel Pretty' is about self-love & self-belief. Schumer, who's proud and brave and successful, despite not being a 'zero-size' model/actress, gives 'I Feel Pretty' some genuine heft. Although, personally speaking, I expected the protagonist's journey to become funnier & also more on the message of believing in one's self, and yet the film never runs out of energy. The lighthearted tone compliments this comedy well & watching Schumer take on the world, has moments of true fun.

Abby Kohn & Marc Silverstein's Screenplay is finely done. The main-plot could've been done with a heavier punch overall & more on your face, but the laughs and the message do come out nonetheless. Even the sub-plot involving Schumer's love interest (Rory Scovel, in excellent form) is sweet. Kohn & Silverstein's Direction is satisfactory. Cinematography is super. Editing is mostly crisp. Art & Costume Design are top-notch.

Performance-Wise: Its Amy Schumer all the way. Its a winning performance, that offers laughs & also heart. Also in terrific form is Michelle Williams, who's a complete delight as Schumer's boss. Emily Ratajkowski looks ravishing & does well. Busy Philipps & Aidy Bryant are first-rate as Schumer's best friends. Tom Hopper does a fair job too. Adrian Martinez is hilarious.

On the whole, 'I Feel Pretty' doesn't push the envelope entirely, but it does make a point.
