Warning: Spoilers
this is one of the first anime i ever saw on cartoon network as a kid, and 5 years later i actually bought the first and second season. for those of you, who don't know, in this show, creatures called momodos are required to fight in all battle royale every 100 years, and whoever wins gets to be king of their world, of course they have limitations, they can only use their powers with spells from a book made for each one of them, but they require a human partner to read the spells for them, also they have to have a very strong emotional bond with them, for the spells to work. i know this sounds a lot like digimon, or maybe even pokemon, but this time the stakes are much higher, because if a momado loses a fight, then their books gets burned and they are sent back to their world, and they can never see their human partners again, this often leads to a lot of tears. its even sadder when you realize that the very likable main characters will all have to say good bye to their friends someday, no matter what they do. This thought is what made each battle very tense. this anime has awesome fights, every episode you cant wait to see who the new mamodo is going to be, or what their powers are, also its awesome when a new spell is unlocked. the best part of the show has to be when one of the villains finds an army of mamodos, and uses them to fight for him, this leads to one of the most powerful mamodo, named brago and his equally awesome partner sherry, to take on the entire army single handily, it is awesome! Also there are a lot of funny jokes in this anime, and its good to know their not too sexual, also the fights don't get too grotesque or disturbing like in other anime. however i have to say, i know i should expect every anime to have annoying fillers, but i hate every single filler in this anime, any episode that doesn't involve a new mamodo or any fights, is completely boring, never contribute to the full plot, their weird and not funny, i don't know why most of the fillers in this show are a waist of time, so i would usually forwards through them. also some of the fights end up being dragged for a lot of episodes, i heard dragon ball z did the same thing, but it just felt like the fights took to long. Some jokes were also really annoying but lighthearted. And my biggest complaint is that they never finished the dub, i heard that even in Japanese they didn't finish the show, but there were still a lot of episodes i would have loved if they dubbed it. i suppose you could read the manga to find out what happens, but i already made my conclusion before i even looked in to it, i think its safe to say that it is Zatch bell who becomes king at the end, but there a lot of fights that make you question if he would survive, also it just as sad when he loses all his friends along the way. This isn't my favorite anime, but i got to say as soon as you watch the first episode, you get hooked, its like when you get annoyed by one thing, you are instantly impressed the next minute, its a roller coaster ride, and it is one of the coolest anime I've ever seen, i recommend it highly.
