This Show Should Have Another Season!
26 June 2017
Warning: Spoilers
***NO SPECIFIC PLOT SPOILERS.*** If I MIGHT have spoiled anything, it might be a tiny bit on one character dynamic. But I'll check the box to be safe.

Honestly, I'm very surprised that this show was canceled after one season. The premise of the show was unique with the idea of a gripping overlying case that lasted the whole series and smaller per episode cases. The best part was that all these cases developed new dynamics and relationships between all of the characters. None of them were purely for the sake of lawyer entertainment, even though that was there too. To be honest, each character was very well written with a lot of thought, to the point that even people who initially seem the least significant end up having potential somewhere. You are able to connect with each character, and even with its interesting format, it is very easy to keep up with.

Coming to the leads. The leads are great actors with a fantastic chemistry. More importantly, it is one of my favorite relationship arcs ever. As many can guess, there is an underlying romantic angle in this show between them, but it in no way overshadows the overall purpose of the show. While the professional and personal lives of of the leads do interact, it is not the kind that adds unnecessary OTT scandals to their careers. They are enemies in court but friends behind the scenes. They establish a friendship and within it an amazing boundary of trust in which they share information and experiences they could not with anyone else. This relationship is different from many in that it's not just focused on how they realize their love for each other. For them, it is more a journey of the love in itself than a question of will they won't they. With that being said, this show had one of my most favorite "confessions" ever. Besides this, bot of the characters are very lovable, charming and layered in their own way. Their rapport as either opposing counsel or lawyers on the same team is definitely entertaining and intelligently portrayed.

Coming to the series finale. You can't blame them for unfinished threads, as I'm sure they were not expecting to be canceled. The good thing is that both the overlying case and the romantic angle get some level of a resolution. So, the incomplete ending won't make it seem like the 13 episodes were a waste of your time. The bad thing is that there was a new important event that could have added a lot more to the verdict of said case had they gotten to shoot more episodes. The other bad thing is, as I said, the final journey for the leads was never a "will they won't they" but how two starkly different but lovable personalities handled being at each other's throats in court, being all for each other personally, and being in interesting dynamics with other characters all at the same time. We get a resolution, but there was a lot of room for further exploration if given the chance. I know that last part sounds like a cliché, but you have to watch the episodes to know that the approach is actually very unique, and it isn't as simple as the classic "how does one balance professional and personal life?". I'll repeat again: The ending certainly left all these potentials you know they would have and could have utilized, but they did still reach a certain resolution on the two biggest currents of the show. It may leave you wanting more, but it won't be a waste of time to watch it just because the ending was not a typical "series finale".
