Mute (2005)

Could have been better

Warning: Spoilers
"Mute" is an American 15-minute short film from 2005, so this one is already over a decade old and it is directed by "Sabrina" Melissa Joan Hart. She also directed several episodes of the series I just mentioned. But back to this one here. MJH's sister Emily plays the main character and she does not only look really stunning, but she also plays her part well. Also in it is another Emily, namely the slightly lesser-known sister by Zooey Deschanel that people may have seen on the long running television show "Bones" already. Sadly I wasn't impressed by her at all to be honest. Same is true for writer Kristen Lipiro and occasionally it becomes obvious that she isn't/wasn't an experience script writer at all. There are some solid moments yes, but then there are also scenes in which she sacrificed realism completely for cheap thrills that do not only completely go against everything else in tone, but just don't feel very realistic. The ending is one such example. Overall, sadly the negative outweighs the positive and I don#t recommend seeing this film here. Quite a shame as in terms of lead actress and script (occasionally) this could definitely have been a much much better work. Thumbs down and lets be honest I'd still date Hart's character anytime over Deschanels. No contest.
