Amusing , fun and absurd comedy about a bunch of losers attempting to execute a relentless vendetta
8 February 2016
This funny film knows very well inter-cross these two genres , black comedy with brief touches of denounce , although the most comfortable note in the mad comedy filled with many cameos of known people and other familiar secondary faces . The picture contains thrills , noisy action , tongue-in-cheek , grotesque situations and above all , humor . The setting is Madrid , Barcelona and surroundings , homes of a massive industry and jobs aplenty ; however , today with the industry in decline and the works closed down there is widespread unemployment and despair . This is a nutty satire about five individuals (Raúl Arévalo as Miguel , Bruno Bergonzini as Piti , Jordi Vilches as Jordi , Albert Pla as Albert , Julián Villagrán as Julio) living in an insanity institution . They have been imprisoned for homicides and the grisly killings were committed because of economical problems . While inside , they form a new band of underdogs to carry out a big robbing . As the foolish people come up with a scheme to save the global economy and at the same time punish those responsible . The first step is to get out of the facility , as they get escape , and on the yacht of the Central Bank director (Jose Maria Pou) pull off a heist . As a bunch of furries with machine guns attack a fantastic boat in which is the wealthy bank president and three nasty executives (Imanol Arias , Luis Tosar , Carmen Machi) . As they abduct kidnap the CEO of a big bank and his underlings . As at the end we find our anti-heroes in a delicate and dangerous situation .

This film is made to entertain , and this movie , especially for a good time and a nice entertainment . It is a passable and unapologetic dark comedy with nice special effects , it has several funny and hilarious scenes and quite successful action scenes with persecution , getaways , fights , crashes and many other things . In Isaki Lacuesta's Murieron Por Encima Sus Posibilidades there's an awful lot of crazy per square inch . This is a strange comedy plenty of social satire along with brief touches of denounce more in less than 90 minutes of length and yet with an air of craziness and surrealism ; though essentially predominates absurd happenings with tongue-in-cheek . Including a sour critique about injustices , regarding unemployment , financial troubles , politic corruption and bank exploitation . Although there are also nudism , bad-mouthed language , bad taste jokes , profanities and 'gore' in the disturbing scenes when Carmen Machi and Luis Tosar attack Imanol Arias . Given that the old Alex de la Iglesia is still going strong there doesn't appear to be any particularly pressing need for Spain to discover a new Alex De la Iglesia , but what the hell here is Isaki to bring us another particular craziness that looks absolutely Gonzo , being shot in De la Iglesia's style . It is presented as a comedy , but it does have some very embarrassing moments , as it shows the despair and desolation of unemployment and how a band of nuts carry out out their peculiar revenge against social powers . And it subtly displays the economic conditions of Aznar/Zapatero/Rajoy's Spain , where entire industries were shut down , taking jobs and local economies along with them , and emerging citizen movements as ¨15 M¨ . The picture belongs to recent trends : A welcome reconsideration of Spain's recent past , often from a more sophisticated or comedic viewpoint ; the multi-presence of Spain's crisis in various titles , and here is well represented with this ¨Sui Generis¨ film .

The picture relies heavily on the unusual relationship between five folly main characters , though some of the sub-plots needed more fleshing out . Yet the laughs are sprinkled throughout nicely, and even though each insane man has their own personal fears to overcome , the lunacy inmates find strength in each other , which makes the experience all the more fruitful . It's fun , but no less likable , though some infinite sadness follows the film at times . The film moves in fits and starts most of which would be desirable , with more traps the viewer resists any kind, and some moments of enjoyment and others quite a few disconcerting . This is a pleasant flick that packs lots of humor , entertainment and amusement as well as sour criticism . The film gives a catching character studio of a band of nuts committing various madcap things , antics , frolics and madness . The picture displays a famous plethora of actors , an all Spanish-star cast such as Àlex Brendemühl , José Coronado , Bárbara Lennie , Eduard Fernández , Sergi López , Jose Maria Pou , Emma Suárez , José Sacristán , most of them playing brief appearances and cameos . As the cameos are very amusing and fun and there are lots of laughters and jokes .

The movie displays a colorful and adequate cinematography by Diego Dussuel and Marc Gómez del Moral , being filmed on location in Madrid , Barcelona , Sant Feliu de Guíxols, Girona, Catalonia , Spain . And a thrilling as well as appropriate musical score . The motion picture was middlingly directed by Isaki Lacuesta who previously filmed "The Legend of Time" , ¨The Damned" or "The Condemned¨ , "The Double Steps" and some documentaries and shorts . Isaki Lacuesta appears to be taking a run at that title with Murieron Por Encima De Sus Posibilidades . Being shot over the course of two years, when the director could put together enough money to shoot this and that scene.
