Reading pretty much one of the only negative reviews I've seen for this movie here, I can tell that the only reason why they graded it poorly was because they did not get a full grasp upon everything happening in the movie. Yes, the wife challenged her abusive husband who killed a dude in the ring not so long ago. It's been a while since I've seen it, but I also recall that there was a bit of publicity that allowed the fight to happen. They obviously wouldn't just accept her to enter the ring with him based on past outcomes. To add on, he had to fight with one arm tied behind his back anyway.
The movie itself seemed a bit ridiculous at first with the woman finding a dude who knew so little about Martial Arts to begin with, but as it progressed, the movie became more interesting and you actually will find yourself rooting for the wife, especially when you learn her back story. I totally recommend watching it.
