Fairly forgettable Chaplin movie
30 October 2015
Warning: Spoilers
"A Night in the Show" is a 25-minute Charlie Chalin short film and this one will have its 100th anniversary in less than a month. So with 1915 as year of production this was obviously still a silent black-and-white film, even if it is not among Chaplin's very first works. But it was maybe his most prolific year. As usual, here he is also again the writer and director. His character goes to a stage show and obviously, there is a very distinguished audience where Charlie does not fit in at all. So he basically is clumsy enough once again to cause chaos for pretty much the entire movie. The cast next to him are all also people who appear in many other Chaplin films as well, especially Edna Purviance of course. Still, I must say this is not among Chaplin's best works here and maybe that is also why it's not among his most famous works. The action is fairly generic for him and it does not feel different to other films he has done. That's why I did not see it as memorable. Not recommended.
