Doug Harris (Josh Gad) is about to be married to Gretchen (Kaley Cuoco-Sweeting), but has no friends he can call upon to be Best Man or Grooms. He hires Jimmy Callahan (Kevin Hart) who is a Wedding Ringer who will hire the Grooms. Jimmy will be the Best Man with the name of Bic Mitchell, who will play a priest as well.
This started out pretty good. I thought maybe there wouldn't be any raunch, but I believed too quickly. There are some petty good sight-gags or physical slap-stick in places and I did chuckle from time to time.
If there was one thing that destroyed this from being half-way decent it was the dog licking peanut butter off Doug's genitals and ends up locking onto Doug's penis (yes, a hospital scene is called for). That scene had to be one of the grossest scenes in "Hollywood comedies." Oh, it goes by quickly and you really don't see much, but you do know what is going on. Funny? No way.
The dog scene aside it was the language that killed the slap-stick at times. Couldn't they see they didn't need the language? Or the dog scene? Apparently not.
Kevin Hart is funny and is good at comedy, but sometimes he talks so fast we miss some of what he says. I mean he can talk really fast. On the other hand, Josh Gad is not funny at all and I have no idea why he is considered a comic. He did okay, but not in a comedic way.
The dance scene with Doug and Bic was very good, but wasn't enough to save this. Pity.
Notables: Ken Howard, Mimi Rogers, and Cloris Leachman. The football scenes had notables too: Joe Nameth, John Riggins, and Ed "Too Tall" Jones.
I have yet to learn my lesson to not watch these so-called comedies. Maybe one day. The language wasn't as bad (yes, it was) as in other so-called comedies I have watched, but the dog scene was totally out of place and that is what one remembers the most.
