THE DETECTIVES – A Barrel full of Monkeys - 1961

This one is episode 71 of the 97 episode run of, THE DETECTIVES. This series starred Robert Taylor and ran between 1959 and 1962. The first two seasons ran at a half hour and the last season had a runtime of an hour. The series followed the detective squad in a big city precinct. Cast regulars included, Mark Goddard, Russell Thorson, Tige Andrews, Lee Farr and Adam West. Robert Taylor headlines as Police Captain, Matt Holbrook.

For some reason the cast and crew decided to make a comic episode. Of course they fail big time with this attempt at light comedy.

The episode starts with some nosey next door types, Dabbs Greer and Hazel Shermet wondering where the woman, Dee J. Thompson, from across the fence has gone. They see the missing woman's husband, Arthur Malet exit the basement with a big smile and a shovel.

Soon the Police are drawn in and go over the place digging up the basement looking for Thompson. No joy there, so they assume she has taken off. Back at the station, Captain Robert Taylor, has his "hands full" trying to convince stripper, Sue Ann Langdon, that she needs a less revealing costume.

The episode moves so slow that it seems like they padded the runtime by half an hour. This is the first episode I can say that I disliked. It could have been a winner if they had played it straight.
