A Good Entertainer with Solid Performances!
23 July 2014
Heavily inspired by the evergreen classic DDLJ, 'Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhania', Written & Directed by Shashank Khaitan, is an entertaining, light-hearted romantic-comedy, that doesn't falter. Its got its share of blemishes, but they aren't too many, either. Also working on its merit are the Solid Performances, that certainly stand out!

'Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhania' Synopsis: A soon to be bride from Ambala, Kavya, while on a tour to Delhi, falls in love with the lovable but naive Humpty. Chaos Ensures...

'Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhania' has a fabulous first-hour. The humor works big time, while the romance builds up impressively. The second-hour is slightly weak, with monotony acting as a deterrent. The entire track involving Kavya's to be groom, played by Siddharth Shukla, isn't entirely engaging. However, a cute climax gets things back on track.

Shashank's Screenplay, despite being heavily inspired by DDLJ, is entertaining & fast-paced. Despite hitting a few wrong notes in the second-hour, the Screenplay triumphs in the overall result. Shashank's Direction, on the other-hand, is energetic. Cinematography is picture-perfect. Editing is mostly crisp. Music by Various Artists is superb.

Performance-Wise: Varun Dhawan steals the show with a stellar act! He enacts the lovable but naive Humpty, with effortless ease. He is a delight to watch from start to end. Alia Bhatt supports wonderfully. Also, the on-screen between Varun & Alia, is excellent. Siddharth Shukla gets limited scope, nonetheless, he's alright. Ashutosh Rana is brilliant, as always. Its sad that the industry doesn't offer him the roles he truly deserves. Gaurav Pandey & Sahil Vaid are remarkable.

On the whole, 'Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhania' succeeds big time as an entertainer.
