Review of Afflicted

Afflicted (2013)
7/10
Good movie

When I saw the trailer I was really interested in this movie, it resembled to "Chronicles" which I really liked. I have to say I'm not a big fan of POV movies, shaky hand cameras and reality/documentary filming style. Very few times the director finds the excuse to have everything filmed by the characters and don't look silly or unrealistic. It also makes a movie lack of what I consider good photography (which is one of the aspects of a movie I enjoy more), but some times this type of filming can come up with interesting material. Along with other two I can remember on this style that I liked (Cloverfield and Chronicles) this had the same filming/photography quality (and there's a lot of different regarding budget) but I didn't feel the story was that interesting or well developed. Actually, when I found out what was going on, I felt disappointed, as it was not original at all and I was expecting something more imaginative or creative to keep guessing until the end of the movie. Worked well for the action though, and wasn't bad at all. The acting was good, especially Derek Lee, he played his part well regarding the sloppy writing. The action was the best in this movie, a first person video game like point of view that I don't recall in any other movie of this gender. The story is nothing new, and the script is not perfect, but it's a good excuse for showing off with some good Ideas the director wanted to put in a movie and works for a good hour and half entertainment, if there's no high expectations.

Good acting, fair story and script and really interesting action. Cool movie, for a good time in the sofa
