Holy Motors (2012)

Surreal nightmares, without a face....

Warning: Spoilers
Call it what you want, Holy Motors is a wonderful viewing experience, and Lavant excels in his multiple roles.

But they are not really multiple roles, he takes costume changes every once in a while, each one becoming a little more deplorable than the last.

It's almost as if its some kind of psychedelic Opera we are experiencing, and the people that Lavant meets and reaches are touched in more ways than one.

In one instance, he is a businessman, the next a CGI serpent, and then the stuff of nightmares, a frightening character who eats flowers. This section of the film is very Lynchian, as the character almost shocks as much as the man who lived behind the diner in Mulholland drive.

In some instances, you think to yourself, is it just fantasy, are we seeing someones dream? Because he appears to be invincible, and after all, in dreams, we can take on any persona, and be who we want in an instant.

With some great support, Holy Motors isn't a mainstream movie in any way, shape or form, it's the stuff of nightmares, like Noe has had some sort of affair with Lyncj and Cronenberg, and this is the outcome.

I can really understand some peoples problems with the film, but I for one found it a moving, beautiful piece of cinema.
