La belle dame of existentialism

Warning: Spoilers
I won't deny it. I like my movies with a plot. But that does not mean that I cannot appreciate a good experimental movie. This is certainly one of the most famous ones from the genre, especially from the earlier years of movie-making. I liked some of the early parts, especially the mirroring sequences were quite interesting to watch. Still all the geometrical shapes the viewer is exposed to tend to become pretty repetitive and boring by the middle of the film at the latest.

The highlights are the contrast between human and machine which was nicely done on several occasions. Another part that really appealed to me was the one about the stolen collier (necklace). The switching between the text message and the female traits, especially eyelids worked very well and I felt the desire of the depicted person to own and proudly wear the necklace.

As a whole I can't really approve as the uninteresting parts outweighed the highlights, although I will admit that I probably would have perceived it differently and more positively as a person living in the 1920s. By today's standards it's not a must see though, one for film history enthusiasts.
