If you liked the first movie, you will probably not mind this..

...i must admit that i had no idea this movie even existed until i saw it on TheMovieNetwork up here in Canada the other night. Like many reading this review, i was a big fan of the original STARSHIP TROOPERS movie. It's one of my absolute favourite films. The subsequent sequels (i watched all of Starship Troopers 2: Hero of the Federation, and only part of "Starship Troopers 3: Marauder") were rather disappointing.

I did, however, also see more then a few episodes of the animated series "Roughnecks" and liked what i saw. I guess i'm just a sucker for STARSHIP TROOPERS.

This animated movie was a nice treat. I really liked getting to see the characters of Rico, Carl and Carmen again, and getting to see how far each had progressed in their military careers. This movie, more then any other, feels like a true sequel to the original film.

There isn't anything too original here. The movie feels a bit like a riff on James Cameron's ALIENS, but the action is good, and they get the FEEL of the original movie right. You can definitely see some ANIME influences in the design of the armours and the weaponry.

There is some animated nudity of the female variety, but they don't get carried away with it.

You do have many of your standard military-movie clichés. This movie is definitely not trying to re-invent the wheel.

If you enjoyed the characters of Rico, Carl and Carmen in the first film, then i would recommend checking this one out. It is definitely not the worst entry in the Starship Troopers saga. Aside from the animated series, it is probably the best thing since the original film!
