Atlantis Down (2010)
10/10
Brilliant and unexpected
18 April 2011
I don't often see a Indie sci-fi film that I thoroughly enjoy, but this is one of the exceptions. Atlantis Down is not one of those cheesy sci-fi films you watch on Syfy Channel. There are no monsters, no big disasters here, yet the audience is engaged by the events that unfold on the screen in a quite unexpected way. I quite honestly don't know whether its originality depends on the fact that the director is not American, but watching it was a pleasant experience.

The first 3 minutes of beautiful CGI set up the frame of the story from the Alien's POV. The screenplay is well structured although I felt the need of more character development in a couple of points. As a viewer you are expected to adapt to new situations almost as fast as the characters, and the anticipation is raised in every scene. Just when you think you understand what's going on, a new twist is added. It's brilliant.
