Warrior women in feudal China played for laughs
1 March 2011
This series might be set in feudal China but don't expect to learn anything about that time period; in this version of history the warriors are either beautiful voluptuous women or young girls and any man who confronts them in battle is bound to lose! They may all be fighting with large bladed weapons but nobody dies or even gets visibly wounded; even though there are fight scenes in most episodes this isn't just an action series but contains large amounts of comedy and more than a little fan-service. There is a large cast but the most important characters are the Kan'u and her adoptive little sister Chohi; as they travel they meet up with other warrior girls and get into various adventure; some involving fighting bandits, some involved competitions and one involved a race to find treasure while avoiding a bear.

When I started watching this I thought it might be yet another show whose sole purpose was to show its female cast in clothes that barely cover them; the cleavage exposing costumes and large breasts certainly fit that type of show; thankfully the fan service isn't over done and the characters are fun to watch; I especially liked Chohi who provided most of the laughs. With only twelve episodes the series doesn't seem too long, there are however two further series called 'Shin Koihime Musou' and 'Shin Koihime Musou - Otome Tairan' that I have yet to see. All three series can currently be watched legally on Crunchyroll.

These comments are based on watching the series in Japanese with English subtitles.
