My own opinion matters less than those of my children. The youngest, a five year old girl perked up during the tunes, but otherwise seemed pretty unimpressed. The boy (nine) laughed, but found it to be much too romantic and squishy, too much talking and not enough action. Everything was much too stiff, not nearly enough slapstick The inescapable Reg Dwightyness made my toes curl, but that's just a matter of taste.
However the film failed to engage us, the main character was unlikeable & like many others, we though the flamingo was about the only comic talent on display. The voice artists were reasonable enough and well matched to the characters, the plot was neither here nor there, but that matters little.
From a geeky cgi perspective, there were lots of nice details, and a unique visual flavour that does stand out, but sadly the film just isn't funny, meaty or interesting enough to make good use of it.
