Excellent 3D visual effects
24 September 2010
My 10 year old son has read all 15 books in the series. So when he saw they were coming out with the movie, he could hardly contain himself.

I wasn't too thrilled about having to take him, I really don't like kids movies as a rule.

I'm so happy we saw the movie in 3D. It was breathtaking. Can't imagine how boring it would have been in 2D.

My son informed me that the movie did not follow the books, however he knew who all of the characters were and didn't seem to care. He chatted happily through most of the movie 'explaining' to me who was who and what was what.

I was a bit surprised when the owls started to fight one another. Then it hit me. Ah Hah! No wonder he likes these books... The scenes that were supposed to be 'violent' weren't really... There were glimpses of blood, and lots of claws and swords, but nothing that I feel would actually scare a child.

The theater was pretty empty which was a bit sad for opening night, and I feel that the movie is probably going to be cherished by a select age group, but overall it was a lot better than other kids movies I have suffered through in the past.
