Baby Mama (2008)
7/10
Funny, Above Average Baby Movie.
27 April 2010
Warning: Spoilers
baby movies can be amusing('Baby Boom')or they can be kind of awful('She's Having A Baby')or sometimes kind of freaky (the weird 'Baby's Day Out'). 'Baby Mama' is one of the funnier, more interesting ones.

the whole surrogate mother thing is somewhat controversial, so it makes for more interesting viewing than your average 'baby' flick. i even wondered at times if some of the jokes were aimed at the 1985 surrogate documentary 'Paternal Instinct'("i worry you are too fat"). at least this movie didn't go as far as that documentary did and show close ups of Amy Poehler's vagina being inseminated. barf. don't remind me.

Tina Fey and Poehler are pretty funny here and there is an amusing cameo-like role for Steve Martin who sports a long hair pony tail. Greg Kinnear is his usual likable self.

it's hard to imagine a 'baby' flick being a great movie. that is of course not including the awesome 'Rosemary's Baby'. so i wouldn't say this is great cinema or a profound story, but if you like babies, and like a fairly funny film, then this is it.
