Cheesy, maybe too cheesy.

Elvira's Haunted Hills is meant to be kinda cheesy, tongue-in-cheek, well, quite awful. Really I can't technically give it a fair review whilst taking it seriously so I'll rate it for what it is: a trashy, cheesy bit of fun.

Without being too insulting, this is more of a Z-Movie than a B-Movie and never takes itself too seriously. There are loads of cheap laughs, mainly from jokes that are older than when the film is set but the amount of 'boob jokes' is a little too high.

To be honest, there is a story somewhere here, the tried and tested mystery in a haunted house plot, but it just serves as filler time for the quickly delivered and often weak jokes. The 'dubbing' joke that starts at around the half-hour mark is quite a funny one but it goes on for a little too long.

In truth, Elvira's Haunted Hills takes advantage of its audience's expectation of a deliberately bad movie a little too much, the abysmally bad acting and cheap one-liners frequently make you wonder what the filmmakers were thinking.

Cringe-worthy aspects aside it's not such a bad movie for a night in with friends, so long as you're drinking something. The lighting and production values are higher than other movies of its budget and the few special effects used look more convincing than I expected. Although the musical interlude is random and full of cheap sexual innuendos it does bring entertainment back to he film for the first time in over twenty minutes. The entertaining scenes are far and few really and at around halfway through you're ready to watch something else.

Having not seen the first Elvira movie: Elvira, Mistress of the Dark I can't really compare the two but if its anywhere near as painful as this I'd be thankful not to see it ever.
