Review of Man on Wire

Man on Wire (2008)
7/10
An interesting story about an amazing stunt

This is a fascinating film about a Frenchman, Philippe Petit, who had a dream about walking between the twin towers of the World Trade Center on a high wire. The film follows his story from the time he saw a picture of what the towers would look like long before they were built. The film is a mix of interviews with the participants, archive footage and dramatic reconstructions. This was all very interesting and surprisingly gripping given that we know from the start that he wasn't caught beforehand. The only slight let down was the fact that there was no film footage of the actual walk between the towers just some still picture, as this took place in 1974 it is hardly surprising though. There was however footage of previous stunts where he walked between the towers of Notre Dame cathedral in Paris and those of the Sydney Harbour Bridge.

The planning involved in getting into the towers with all their equipment then getting the wire set up was as exciting as hearing about the walk itself, even though security was lower than one would expect in such a building these days they were lucky not to get caught.

I'm not sure I'd want to watch it more than once but I'd certainly recommend watching it once to others.
