Uneasy mixture of how to cheat the casino and heartfelt family drama. The acting is very good and convincing, however it almost seems like two separate movies. Putting the two story lines together so that they are both believable is only marginally successful. Overall, the film lacks warmth, and the casino scams are difficult to understand by all except the hard core gambling crowd. All said, "Yonkers Joe" is well done and enjoyable, especially if you have some knowledge of the gaming industry. Special mention must be made of Michael Lerner's performance, which was top notch. Marginally recommended for the average viewer, and highly recommended for those who play the games. - MERK
